Aspects of Mario de Andrade Ramos’ trajectory in commications and intellectual-military activity for the Brazilian Navy

Abstract

This work presents topics of the intellectual-military trajectory of Mario de Andrade Ramos, a Brazilian Navy officer who were a professor at the Escola Naval (1902-1914) and at the Escola Naval de Guerra (1914-1923) in the Physics and Electricity department. Among the aspects covered are its relevance in national debates on the implementation of wireless telegraphy (or radiotelegraphy), acting as a debater and interlocutor and agent in the implementation of the first ultra-powerful stations. Furthermore, the articles discusses aspects of teaching and scientific activities, as well as intellectual circles such as the creation of the Faraday and Einstein medals. Methodologically, I analyzed the periodic press, ministerial reports and articles published in the Revista Marítima Brasileira, comparing them in the first and second parts and providing a dense description of the honor he received upon his dismissal from the Escola Naval.
