Abstract

A 2ª Revolta da Armada Brasileira colocou ao Governo a necessidade de criar uma esquadra alternativa, com a finalidade de combater os revoltosos na baía de Guanabara. A complexidade e os constrangimentos marcaram a formação dessa força, que apesar das críticas que foram feitas ao processo de formação, será possível identificar uma estratégia com vista a um determinado fim. É neste sentido que abordamos o tema nesta comunicação e pretendemos abrir novas hipóteses de investigação numa perspectiva histórico-militar, em que se analisa a evolução tecnológica e as inovações.

  • Carlos Alves Lopes, CINAV

    Since 1989, he has assumed several responsibilities throughout his professional career of 30 years, being his last position as Director and Customer Ombudsman, now retired. He was Deputy Director of the Audit and Inspection Department and head of the IT Audit Office at a national Bank. Among other areas where he took on management responsibility, Project Leader was highlighted in several computer and organizational projects that were transversal to the operation of the Banking Institution and information security. In terms of his academic career, he graduated in History in 1998 and obtained a Postgraduate Diploma in Portuguese Studies (History) in 2005, both at the Open University. He obtained a Master's Degree in Contemporary History from the Open University in 2013 (Military History), at the time he presented his dissertation on "The Portuguese in the Great War: An experience of combat and captivity”. He obtained a PhD Degree in Contemporary History (Naval History) from the New University of Lisbon (NOVA) in 2019, at the time he presented his thesis "Portugal and the Naval Blocked in the Great War, a lesson learned and forgotten”. He is currently developing a post-doc program on Military History at the University of Lisbon (ULisboa) in association with the Naval School (Portuguese Navy). He works as an integrated researcher in the Economics, Society, Heritage and Innovation group at the Institute of Contemporary History of the Faculty of Social Sciences and Humanities of the New University of Lisbon (NOVA), since 2014, where he follows actually a line of research in Techno-Naval Contemporary History related with tactical an logistic military issues, and as an associate researcher at Naval Research Center, Naval School (Portuguese Navy), since 2016, where he follows the line of research in Naval History with the theme: "The Naval Blockade and The Armada”. In 2017 became associated as researcher to the Transnational Cultural Studies Network on Conflicts and Identities, a group of historical studies on war of the University of Seville’s Department of Contemporary History. In 2018 became national defence auditor. In 2019 he was invited to the Scientific Council of the Naval Research Center, CINAV. In 2021 he became a member at Centre for History of the University of Lisbon (CH-ULisboa), at the School of Arts and Humanities of the University of Lisbon, the oldest Portuguese research units exclusively devoted to historical sciences. Since 2006, he has developed a research website specialized in Military and Naval History of Portugal, "Momentos de História", regularly participates in congresses, seminars and workshops in the field of military matters (Army and Navy), collaborating with the Military University Institute IUM (Portuguese Army), since 2016 as a jury of examinations.
