The Brazilian Navy in the postwar Paraguay - an analysis from the military press

Abstract

This article aims to analyze, through periodic Gazeta Naval (1877) and Soldier and Sailor (1869) the situation Brazilian Navy post war with Paraguay. We will check that the policy of abandonment of the military also hit the Navy, despite being placed as the “guardian” of the Empire, as well as the Army in the closing years of the nineteenth century. The low wages, lack of modernization of equipment, poor facilities and low military budgets affected the two forces and made to react to these Brazilian monarchy.
