The objective of this study was to evaluate the "in vitro" degradation of the elastic force of modular Eurodonto and American Orthodontics marks after autoclaving. A total of 240 bands were selected, with 3 different colors of each of the two marks (navy blue, gray and crystal), 40 of each calor. 2 groups were established 20 between the calor and brand bandages sarne: the contrai group, the elastics which were not sterilized, and the group which was sterilized in an autoclave Sercon cycle for heat sensitive materiais (121C for 30 minutes without drying). Subsequently, 240 bandages were submitted to the tensile strength in a universal tensile testing machine EMIC, recording the values of the force exerted by each bandage every ounce of relaxation. T hey were extended up to 5 mm with a speed of 0.2 inches / minute. Data were evaluated by statistical analysis Tukey test and analysis of variance. The results showed that the elastic bandages suffer force degradation after autoclaving, but this degradation is not statistically significant in 4mm distension, so it can be used in orthodontic clinic.
